Festival coordinators Cindy and Brad Simmons are working on plans to help accommodate the large crowds expected again at this year’s event. “Danville made the celebrity Pitmasters from last year feel so welcome, they are all excited to return. This year will see the event grow and spill into downtown,” said Brad Simmons.
“While this weekend has traditionally been the date for Constitution Square Arts Fest, Heart of Danville officials have agreed that the community will be better served by working together. It gives us a better chance for good weather and longer daylight hours, allowing us to reach a bigger audience. We found the community’s response to the BBQ festival to be exceptional, and feel we can bring a more concentrated volunteer focus to a single event of excellence for downtown,” said HOD Promotion Committee chairwoman Janet Hamner. “Our experience and hard work over the years has allowed Danville to become the region’s ‘Festival and Event Headquarters’. We are so excited to lend support to Brad and Cindy Simmons, bringing even more excitement to Downtown Danville.”
The Heart of Danville will sponsor a minimum of ten events in Downtown Danville in 2012. In addition, the Lawn Chair Theater will host seven movies on Friday nights during the summer months. The Heart of Danville’s mission is to focus downtown development over four concentrated areas: Design, Promotion, Economic Restructuring and Organization.
